Ring of Kerry Wild Escape

Six nights. Five full days. The Ring of Kerry explored the way it deserves to be — properly, on foot, with someone who knows every corner of it.

OVERVIEW

The Full Kerry Experience — Five Days on Foot

The Ring of Kerry is one of the most famous landscapes in the world. Most people see it through a car window. The Ring of Kerry Wild Escape gives you five full days to walk it — mountains, coastline, hidden valleys, ancient landmarks and the quieter places that don’t appear on any tourist itinerary.

This is our flagship guided walking holiday. Six nights based at Álaind Lodge in Sneem, five different walking routes through Kerry’s most iconic and most overlooked landscapes. Each day covers different terrain and a different side of Kerry, from mountain ridges with views across the Atlantic to sheltered valley walks and coastal headlands where the landscape simply takes your breath.

If you have six nights to spend in Kerry, this is how to spend them.

ITINERARY

Your 6-Night Experience

Day 1 — Arrival & Welcome

Arrive at Álaind Lodge in Sneem, settle into your room and meet Fergal for your welcome briefing. An overview of the week’s walking, the landscape you’ll be exploring and what to prepare for. Free time to explore Sneem village for your first evening.

Day 2 — Connect With The Past

A day shaped around history — Kerry’s ancient landscape on foot. The route passes Staigue Fort, one of Ireland’s best-preserved Iron Age stone ring forts (over 1,500 years old), and takes in Coad Church, Saint Crohan’s holy well and the quiet country lanes that connect them. Walking through time, at a pace that lets you stop and take it in.

Day 3 — Kerry Mountains Solitude

Into the mountains today — the Dunkerron range and the dramatic highland landscape above Sneem. Away from marked trails, a solitude that’s genuinely hard to find elsewhere in Ireland. Ridge walking, mountain views on all sides and Fergal’s knowledge of every hidden corner of this terrain. A completely different day from yesterday’s coastline.

Day 4 — Edge of the World

One of the most dramatic days of the week — the outer edge of the Iveragh Peninsula, where the Atlantic has nothing but ocean between you and America. Exposed headlands, wild coastal terrain and the particular quality of light and air that you only find at the far edge of Europe. A day that earns its name.

Day 5 — A hidden gem, few have seen

Hidden in the heart of the Kerry Geopark lies a corrie lake, few know about and even fewer have ever seen. You’ll be one of those who will have the pleasure of lunching at its dark water’s edge. Surrounded by imposing, rear cliffs and perfectly smooth side walls, bearing the telltale signs of a passing glacier, this is pristine wild Ireland.  The walk to and from this natural wonder offers expansive views of the Dunkerron Mountains, and Sneem’s famous standing stone. The trail follows forest trails, open countryside and idyllic pastureland.

Day 6 — The White Sand Finale

After five days of mountains, headlands and ancient history, the final walking day ends on a white sand beach — a contrast so perfect it could only be Kerry. The route works its way along the coast to finish at one of the peninsula’s finest beaches, the Atlantic in front of you, Skellig Views on a clear day and five remarkable days behind. The best possible send-off before your last evening in Sneem.

Day 7 — Departure

Breakfast at Álaind Lodge, then departure. Fergal can suggest a final short walk or a stop in Sneem before you head for home.

FAQs

Ring of Kerry Wild Escape — FAQs

  • Why six nights rather than four?

The Ring of Kerry is a vast and varied landscape. Four nights gives you a good introduction; six nights gives you Kerry properly. With five full walking days, you’ll cover mountain, coast, valley and historic terrain — a complete experience rather than a highlights reel.

  • Is this the most comprehensive guided walking holiday you offer?

For Moderate-level walkers, yes. The Ring of Kerry Wild Escape covers more terrain, more walking days and more variety than our four-night options. For experienced walkers who want a greater physical challenge, our Challenging-grade mountain holidays offer something different again.

  • Will we walk the Kerry Way?

The holiday includes routes through sections of Kerry Way terrain, but is not structured as a Kerry Way walk from A to B. Fergal selects each day’s route based on conditions and the group — the Kerry Way is one tool among many in a very well-stocked toolbox.

  • Do the six nights have to be consecutive?

Yes. The holiday is structured as a continuous six-night stay from arrival to departure. If you need a different structure — for example, a rest day mid-week — speak to Fergal when booking.

  • How does this differ from the Sneem Signature Walking Holiday?

The Sneem Signature is four nights with three walking days — a great introduction to guided walking in Kerry. The Ring of Kerry Wild Escape is six nights with five walking days, covering significantly more of the Kerry landscape and offering more variety of terrain and experience.
