OVERVIEW
Kerry at Its Best — Over 4 Unforgettable Days
The Sneem Signature Walking Holiday is our most popular introduction to guided walking in Kerry. Over four nights based at Álaind Lodge in Sneem, you’ll explore three distinct sides of this extraordinary landscape — the mountains that rise sharply from the valley floor, the wild coastline that meets the Atlantic and the quiet lakes and hidden valleys that most visitors never find.
Each day’s walking route is hand-picked by Fergal the morning of your walk, based on weather, trail conditions and your group’s ability — so you always get the best that Kerry has to offer on that particular day. Routes are chosen from Fergal’s extensive local knowledge, not from a fixed itinerary and the experience is richer for it.
This is a guided walking holiday for those who want to properly explore Kerry — not just pass through it. Everything is included: luxury B&B accommodation at Álaind Lodge, Fergal’s expert guiding on every walking day and all meals — a hearty breakfast each morning, packed lunch on the trail and a proper evening meal after the walk. There are no hidden extras.

ITINERARY
Your 4-Night Experience
Arrive at Álaind Lodge in Sneem and settle into your ensuite room. In the evening, Fergal sits down with you for a welcome briefing — an introduction to the week’s walking, the landscape you’ll be exploring and what to expect. If you arrive with energy to spare, Sneem village is on your doorstep with a choice of restaurants, pubs and cafés for your first evening.
Your first full walking day takes you into the lower Dunkerron Mountains above Sneem. You’ll visit Eagles Lake, the spectacular 100-metre Coomanassig waterfall and the dramatic vertical cliff walls of Knocknagantee — a geological wonderland shaped over 300 million years. Lunch is taken at Coomnacronia lake with mountain views on all sides. White-tailed sea eagles are occasionally spotted in this area. Kerry GeoPark at its best.
| Route type: | Distance: | Ascent: | Max height: | Time: |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mountain | Approx 10km | Up to 380m | Approx 400m | 4–5 hours |
Day three brings you to Kerry’s coastline — dramatic headlands, cliff paths and the full force of the Wild Atlantic. Kerry’s southwest coastline is among the most spectacular in Europe and walking it at a proper pace, with someone who knows every lookout point and hidden cove, is an experience in itself.
| Route type: | Time: | Terrain: |
|---|---|---|
| Coastal / Headland walking. | Approx 5 hours | Mostly moderate terrain with some uneven ground. |
Your final walking day combines Sneem’s two famous loop walks into one full day on the trail — moorland, forest track, hillside meadow and the river landscape around Fermoyle Bridge. This is Kerry GeoPark walking at its most accessible: varied, beautiful and full of wildlife. The Kerry Mountain Hare is a frequent companion on this route.
| Route type: | Time: | Terrain: |
|---|---|---|
| Valley / Lake walking | Approx 4–5 hours | Moderate, with sections of softer ground. |
Breakfast at Álaind Lodge, then departure. If your travel plans allow for a later departure, Fergal can suggest a short local walk or a final stop in Sneem before you head home.
