BEST OPTIONS FOR SOLOS
Best Experiences for Solo Travellers
Wild Kerry Day Walking Escape
— Meet Other Walkers
The scheduled day walk is a great introduction and social option for solo travellers. You’ll join a small group (maximum 8 people) for a professionally guided day through Kerry’s wild landscapes — a natural, easy way to meet other walkers without the pressure of a longer commitment. Many solo guests book multiple day walks and find the social element becomes one of the highlights of their trip.
Guided Walking Holidays
— The Full Experience
Our multi-day guided walking holidays are based from Álaind Lodge with one welcoming group for the full duration. Solo guests integrate naturally — Fergal’s small-group approach means everyone is included and conversations flow easily on the trail. Evening meals in Sneem village are informal and often shared.
Single room availability — contact Fergal to confirm. A single supplement may apply.
Kerry Way Self-Guided Escape
— Walk at Your Own Pace
For solo walkers who prefer independence, the Kerry Way Self-Guided Escape gives you four days on one of Ireland’s most celebrated walking routes — fully supported with maps, briefing and WhatsApp access to Fergal throughout. You walk alone but you’re never without backup.
Sneem Self-Guided Escape
— A Gentle Introduction
Three nights in Sneem with the loop walks starting from the door. A relaxed, flexible option for solo walkers who want to explore Kerry at their own pace and get a feel for self-guided walking before committing to a longer holiday.

Fergal is experienced at welcoming solo guests and creating a comfortable group dynamic from the start. The small group size helps — eight people is very different from a coach tour. Many solo guests tell us it was easier than they expected within the first hour.
-
Yes — for all guided multi-day walking holidays, evening meals are included along with breakfast and packed lunch. Self-guided holidays include breakfast and packed lunch but not evening meals. Sneem village has a good choice of restaurants and pubs within easy walking distance of Álaind Lodge.

It depends. If you want total freedom over your hours and pace, self-guided gives you that. If you want company on the trail and someone else to make all the decisions, guided is better. Both work well for solo travellers — it’s really about what kind of experience you want.

Kerry’s walking trails and the Kerry Way are well-established and generally very safe. For open mountain terrain, Álaind’s guided options provide professional safety cover. For self-guided walks, Fergal’s briefing, maps and WhatsApp support are there if anything unexpected comes up.
