OVERVIEW
Join a Guided Day Walk Through Wild Kerry
The Wild Kerry Day Walking Escape is a scheduled, professionally guided day walk — open to individuals, couples and small groups who want to experience Kerry’s extraordinary landscape with expert local guidance, without planning a multi-day holiday around it.
Fergal Harrington, qualified Mountain Leader, leads a small group through a carefully chosen route each walk — mountains, coastal headlands, river valleys, or hidden trails, depending on the season, the weather and what Kerry is offering on that particular morning. You don’t choose the route; you trust the guide. That’s the point.
Fergal describes his approach as ‘Slow Tourism’ — the focus is on the quality of the walk, not the kilometres. Plenty of time for photography, for stopping to take it in and for the kind of conversation that only happens when you’re out in the hills with good people. Maximum 8 per walk. A pace that lets you breathe.

HOW IT WORKS
How the Route is
Chosen
Each morning, Fergal checks mountain weather telemetry and trail conditions before selecting the day’s route. The aim is always the same: find the walk that offers the best scenery, the safest conditions and the most rewarding experience for the group’s ability on that day.
This means you’ll always get Kerry at its best, not a fixed route that might be soaked in with cloud or waterlogged underfoot. It also means that if you walk with Álaind on multiple days, you’ll do a different route each time.
Bring your packed lunch — Fergal will stop at a ‘secret spot’ chosen for the view. The terrain can include mountain trails, coastal paths, open hillside, boggy ground and sections without a waymarked path. Come prepared for four seasons in one day — that’s Kerry.

WHO THIS SUITS
Who is This Walk For?
Difficulty — Moderate
Designed for reasonably active walkers comfortable on uneven, rough, or off-trail terrain. The walk typically involves 4–5 hours on the trail with some ascent and descent. There may be short sections that are more challenging — boggy ground, steep slopes, or exposed hillside.
If you enjoy a brisk 1.5–2 hour walk at home and can manage some inclines, you will be comfortable. Fergal walks at an empathetic, social pace — this is not a fitness test.
Perfect For:
- Solo travellers — over 40% of Álaind’s day walkers come alone
- Couples looking for an active day in Kerry
- Visitors to Kerry who want more than the usual sightseeing
- Walkers staying in the area who want expert local guidance for a day
- Anyone who wants to see Kerry’s wild landscape properly, without the planning
